• Adult Size: 4–6 inches (10–15 cm)
• Life Expectancy: 5–8 years, longer with excellent care
• Habitat: Endemic to fast-flowing hill streams and rivers in the Western Ghats of India. Natural waters are well-oxygenated and surrounded by dense vegetation

Appearance

• Coloration: Silver body with a bold red line extending from the snout through the eye and partway down the body. A black line runs below the red, and the dorsal and caudal fins often have yellow and black highlights

• Body Shape: Torpedo-shaped and built for speed—very streamlined and muscular

• Fast, active swimmers—best in long tanks with current to mimic their natural habitat
